Oh the wonders of technology…

August 22, 2008

On our most recent trip home we flew Delta via JFK.  One bonus to the JFK-SLC leg is that they have Direct TV.  The only other time we’ve had live TV was on a Jet Blue flight from SLC-SFO so it was a real treat to have it on a longer flight… especially since NBC and MSNBC were two of the channels so we were able to get our daily fix of Olympics coverage.

Since it almost never happens it’s worth mentioning- our flight landed over an hour early!

IFs in Rhode Island

August 10, 2008

We met teaching in Singapore as International Fellows (IFs) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Some of our closest friends are still from the year (for me and 2 years for Damon) that we spent teaching there. Eilidh hadn’t yet made a trip to the US so we planned for a gathering in Providence. In an attempt to help Eilidh visit as many states as possible Damon, Glyn, Jo, Eildih, and I took a day trip to Mystic, CT to visit the aquarium and stopped in at Foxwoods Casino.

After Kathy and Michael arrived we headed out to Horseneck Beach for our first outing. The second day we headed to Newport to check out the waterfront, Ocean Drive, and Rose Cliff mansion. No U.S. trip for Glyn would be complete without a trip to Denny’s so we grabbed breakfast there the last day and spent some time at the RISD museum.

During the long weekend we played many hands of Texas Hold’em and completed an entire book of Mad Libs. To make sure that everyone fully experienced Rhode Island/New England, we had coffee milk, Del’s Lemonade, Awful Awfuls at the Newport Creamery, lobster rolls, and clam chowder (well those of who eat meat).

3 Weddings in 4 Weeks

August 7, 2008

We’ve undertaken some crazy travel schedules in the past. The last month may have taken the cake. We attended weddings in Santa Cruz, Sudbury (outside of Boston), and Pasadena. During our free weekend we had a mini-reunion with some of our friends whom we worked with in Singapore (some of whom have already written about it).

Congratulations to Christl and Steven, Mike and Sibylle, and Gita and Andy!!
