We met teaching in Singapore as International Fellows (IFs) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Some of our closest friends are still from the year (for me and 2 years for Damon) that we spent teaching there. Eilidh hadn’t yet made a trip to the US so we planned for a gathering in Providence. In an attempt to help Eilidh visit as many states as possible Damon, Glyn, Jo, Eildih, and I took a day trip to Mystic, CT to visit the aquarium and stopped in at Foxwoods Casino.
After Kathy and Michael arrived we headed out to Horseneck Beach for our first outing. The second day we headed to Newport to check out the waterfront, Ocean Drive, and Rose Cliff mansion. No U.S. trip for Glyn would be complete without a trip to Denny’s so we grabbed breakfast there the last day and spent some time at the RISD museum.
During the long weekend we played many hands of Texas Hold’em and completed an entire book of Mad Libs. To make sure that everyone fully experienced Rhode Island/New England, we had coffee milk, Del’s Lemonade, Awful Awfuls at the Newport Creamery, lobster rolls, and clam chowder (well those of who eat meat).
